Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - On patrol

Came across a bit of trouble on patrol..

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - rigging started

Well after the wing is algned a bit better, though I've found out the top wing show be flat, and not have any droop, but I'll live with it. I filled the interplane strut slots int he lower wing and painted her.

Assembled the landing gear frame, which was a three handed afair, as the two side frame both snapped at the axle hole, so they were quickly tacked together and then super glued to the fuselage to hold its angle.

I dug out my 80 gauge drill bits and drilled some holes for the invisble mending thread rigging. I'm not planning to do all the rigging just a representive few.

Did the right wing last night, which was quite relaxing, I find the rigging quite fun.

Well after some great advice from OldMan on the 1/72nd Hyperscale forum, I attached the interplane struts to the upper wing, tidied up the joints, removed the cabanes, attached the top wing, then added new cabanes from plasticard.

Much better result, a bit of tidying up and an paint and I think we'll be there.

I was really nervous about it but it worked out, once I got stuck in.

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - wing alignment

Slow going on this, I think I'm a bit scared of the rigging, gulp..
Got a bit of paint on Humbrol 74 linen as the under surface colour, and I havn't got anything thats close to PC-10 so I'm using Humbrol 75 Bronze Green as the other colour.

Got tot the stage wherer I thought I's pop the cabane struts on, well there's a bit of an alignment issue...

Not bad from directly above, but...

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - wood

Camel is going well, let everything setup and have tidied up the filler, and started the wood work..

A coat of Tamiya Desert yellow and then some Windsor and Newton Raw umber oil brushed on. First time I've tried this and looks nice. I'll coat it with Tamiya Clear Orange and it should deepen the brown up.

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - fuselage

Wow this kit needs some loving, quite a few large gaps and needing to add plastic to try and align the lower wing to the fuselage.

The pilot is a modified Airfix fellow, as the Revell one looked a bit small.

Have had to add some strips to spread the fuselage to fit the lower wing.

Modified the guns so they sit lower and added the muzzles..

So waiting for the filler to set hard, then a bit of sanding..

Have also added a piece of sprue for the mount.

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - bag and sprues

Over on Revellations, they are running their inaugural group build of any Revell kit, so I though I'd join in with a Revell 1/72 Sopwith Camel.

I grew up on Biggles stories, and loved the WW1 stories, so I just have to do a representative Biggles machine.

A nice bagged Camel

Not too many parts, a bit of flash and that pilot is leaving, I've got an Airifx "hands on nuts" pilot that with a little knife work should do.

I would say some gentle Fill'n sand on this one, the parts do look delicate.
