Revell Monogram 1/48 First Lunar Landing

Hi folks,

Well been working on this one for a while now, started it for a group build on UAMF, and got the LM done, and have just finished the base and astronauts to go with it.

The self adhesive foil, I used for the sides of the descent stage, but I found that easter egg foil wrappers stuck on with craft PVA worked better, I could get smaller wrinkles and conform it to small radii, important for the legs and framework. Though the adhesive foil was handy cut into thin strips for the foil bindings on the legs, and the major V support struts.

I replaced the Ascent stage view ports with plasticard, and painted them, rather than using the yellow film supplied.

Modified a couple of antennas, but left fairly much as is the box, there is a good bit of flash and mould misalignment to clean up, but to me a solid little kit.

 The base has the shadows mould on and I'm still not sure if I like them or not, but it was enjoyable painting the base and astronaut figures and all the equipment.

 I really enjoyed painting the astronaut figures, painting the visor reflections was fun.

One scratch build was a camera for the front of Neil Armstrong.

Revell 1/181 B-36 Peacemaker - Fill and sand cycle..

It is now in the now stuck in the prime fill and sand cycle...

 This is the second round, I've finally figured out how to use the little bottles of Tamiya Fine Surface primer, gave my bottle a good stir and got all the sediment off the bottom and works much better.

They had moulded on the wing walk lines, and I was going to leave but, filled them in.

 The engine pods have taken some work the inlets were much too large, and took some serious sanding to get to blend in.
I've filled the large holes for the support strut.

Next job will be to reshape the propeller spinner, to make it more conical. I've snipped the blades off, and will make some prop blurs for it, so that makes the job easier.

Revell 1/181 B-36 Peacemaker - Canopy and wing gappage

Hi there,

Finally back to this one, I have been building a Revell Monogram 1/48th Lunar module, which has been a nice break from planes, I'll post some piccies soonish.

The B-36 has had it's wing fuselage gaps filled with milliput..

Still need a coat of primer to check any issues.

The blobby boys have been finished and fitted..

Recovered from a CA fogging issue, by dripping some Klear in through the nose and sloshing it around the inside of the canopy, phew..

A bit of filler around the canopy, then on with the clear nose cap, which just had another dip in Klear, as one coat wasn't enough to stop CA fog for the main canopy.

Revell 1/181 B-36 Peacemaker - The Little People

After fettlign with the canopy, I thought I needed to put something in the gaping hole in the front of the fuselage, at least to blank the nose from the canopy...

So scratched a cockpit.

and since it's in flight it needs a crew...

some wire work and super glue gel, and we have the fab four.

Next to a big 1/72 fella..

A squirt of primer and some colour and they'll do.

So back to fill'n sanding the rest of the parts..

Revell 1/181 B-36 Peacemaker - gappages

Almost have the cockpit sorted out, a bit more blending in

Cemented on the engine nacelle halves..

A bit of fill'n sand required on the side of these, the lower wing surface seems to be convex.

A bit of fill required at the rears as well..

Revell 1/181 B-36 Peacemaker - Fuselage..

Fuselage work last night, trying to banish the seams yet keep some roundness..

ended with one furrow here which I've filled with CA. The canopy doesn't look like its sits right to me so I'm building up the cockpit sides to raise it a tad.

Looking forward to these joints...

the left one (upper) I've worked on a little, the right hasn't yet as I got the wing halves misligned and had to split the wing to try again.

She's a decent size still..

Revell 1/181 B-36 Peacemaker

Having a definite lack of modelling oomph at the moment, but have been tempted by some small scale stuff. (I'm a 1/72 kind of guy.) Recently bought this set:

Revell 1/144 Air Power Combo

A nice selection of heavy metal, will test my overall grey painting ability. Soon after I saw this on our local auction site, and bought it:

Revell 1/181 B-36 Peacemaker

I thought would fit nicely with the other three, even though not the same scale.

I dived straight into it, and quite enjoying it.

Interesting to see it was made here in New Zealand by Lincoln, I've had a few older Revell kits like that.

I was wondering how old it was, and it told me: 1954, 59 years old few makes me feel very young.

A good size even at 1/181.

Panel line markings, and tail serial number, it does have decals as well.

Nice stand included, no wheels down option at all, suits me fine.

Transparent parts, look really nice to me, fine raised frame lines, and not marked at all.

A bit of flash here and there, and needs a bit of tidying at the wing roots.

Two piece tailplane.

So as tonight, sanded all the locating lugs off, squared up the mating surfaces, fuselage is being cemented in stages and wings are drying.

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - On patrol

Finished..

Came across a bit of trouble on patrol..

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - rigging started

Well after the wing is algned a bit better, though I've found out the top wing show be flat, and not have any droop, but I'll live with it. I filled the interplane strut slots int he lower wing and painted her.

Assembled the landing gear frame, which was a three handed afair, as the two side frame both snapped at the axle hole, so they were quickly tacked together and then super glued to the fuselage to hold its angle.

I dug out my 80 gauge drill bits and drilled some holes for the invisble mending thread rigging. I'm not planning to do all the rigging just a representive few.

Did the right wing last night, which was quite relaxing, I find the rigging quite fun.

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - wing aligned

Well after some great advice from OldMan on the 1/72nd Hyperscale forum, I attached the interplane struts to the upper wing, tidied up the joints, removed the cabanes, attached the top wing, then added new cabanes from plasticard.

Much better result, a bit of tidying up and an paint and I think we'll be there.

I was really nervous about it but it worked out, once I got stuck in.

Biggles - Revell 1/72 Camel - wing alignment

Slow going on this, I think I'm a bit scared of the rigging, gulp..
Got a bit of paint on Humbrol 74 linen as the under surface colour, and I havn't got anything thats close to PC-10 so I'm using Humbrol 75 Bronze Green as the other colour.

Got tot the stage wherer I thought I's pop the cabane struts on, well there's a bit of an alignment issue...

Not bad from directly above, but...
